Join Bree Naomee and experience Elements with Yin - a journey of self-discovery through the layers of Yin Yoga and The 5 Element Theory.

The Five Element Theory is an ancient Chinese philosophy used to describe relationships and interactions between all things. The five elements are wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. The Elements are also related to our body, mind, emotions & spirit and the way that we perceive the world.

Improve your relationship with yourself, others and the world by getting to know your archetype, ways to balance and how to help others.

Yin Yoga is a journey of thyself to thyself. In Yin Yoga we hold poses for much longer (3-7min) we target specific areas of the body to lengthen, strengthen and release tension, tightness & blockages. There is a deep healing quality Yin has to offer not only on the physical level, mentally, emotionally and energetically by stimulating meridian lines associated with The Elements.

What are the 5 Elements of TCM and how does this apply to Yin Yoga?


The 5 Elements of TCM are: EarthMetal, Water, Wood & Fire.

This is a blueprint, a map, a framework, an intelligent system that was developed to help us gain a deeper understanding of nature, the nature of our physical body and our individual needs to find balance, vitality and homeostasis.

The 5 Elements provide an understanding of how nature interacts with the body and how the different dimensions of our being impact each other. TCM & The 5 Element Theory include information related to the internal organs, meridians, emotions and the interconnected relationships between them. This multi-dimensional view of life offers a diagnostic framework to recognise where imbalances—body, mind, emotions, and spirit lie.

The 5 Elements reflect a deep understanding of natural law and the Universal order underlying all things in our world. Yin Yoga has now been recognised as a way to gently stimulate meridian channels in the body and may assist in releasing stagnant energy, blockages and held tension in the extracellular matrix of our fascia/connective tissue.

While studying and exploring the concepts of TCM & The 5 Element Theory it has supported and helped me immensely in deepening and understanding every relationship in my life. I now have a deeper and more intimate relationship with my body, nature, friends, family and the ever-changing nature of life which cultivates more joy, happiness, peace and love in everyday life. It’s also a beautiful way to find our true nature, our strengths and our challenges and to celebrate every aspect of who we are.

Each Element is associated with an Archetype and is a means for us to gain a greater understanding of ourselves and the way we interact with each other. Are you the Peacemaker? The Alchemist? The Philosopher? The Pioneer or The Wizard? Let us explore!

Your Retreat Day Host   

Bree Naomee has been practicing and teaching Yin Yoga for over 10 years and developed her love affair with the therapeutic practice of Yin Yoga after a severe back injury. She lives and breathes her passion through her daily practice, classes, workshops, retreats, teacher trainings and daily life off the mat.

Bree is a Zen Thai Shiatsu Therapist and shares this love along with Taoist philosophy and The Five Element Theory making her trainings unique and full of ancient wisdom to encourage a deeper understanding and acceptance of ourselves, others and the ever-changing nature of life.

Owner and founder of Yoga Alma (formally Yoga Arenal Costa Rica) Bree has developed educational courses and retreats that are comprehensive and affordable for teachers and students to attend and gain a deep understanding of Yin Yoga, the human body and the subtle layers and energy within life.
